Grass Mowing 2024

The Town of Appomattox, Virginia seeks the services of a lawncare professional to provide grass mowing services at various Town-owned properties in the town as well as properties maintained by the Town of Appomattox in and around the County of Appomattox. The Town has elected to procure this service using competitive negotiation to ensure the highest possible overall value for this service. 

Sealed bids will be received at the Town of Appomattox Public Works Office, 1799 Church Street, Appomattox, Virginia at 2:00 p.m., local prevailing time, Thursday, May 30, 2024. 

All qualified contractors interested in this procurement shall attend a mandatory pre-bid meeting on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at 10:00 am. The location will be the Town of Appomattox Public Works Office at 1799 Church Street, Appomattox, Virginia. Attendance at the conference will be evidenced by a representative’s signature on the attendance roster. Failure to attend the pre-proposal conference will exclude the vendor from consideration under the terms of this solicitation.

Due to the importance of all bidders having a clear understanding of the specifications/scope of work and requirements of this solicitation, participation at this conference will be a prerequisite for submitting a bid.  Bids will only be accepted from those bidders who are represented at this pre-bid conference. A tour of the mowing locations will take place at the conclusion of the pre-bid meeting.

The Town of Appomattox offers curbside garbage collection, brush collection and leaf collection. The Town also provides snow removal from streets within the Town Limits, installation and maintenance of sidewalks, sign maintenance and street lights. The Public Works Department is also responsible for the maintenance of all town owned facilities such as Abbitt Park and the Appomattox Community Park (Children’s Park).
Leaf Collection

The Town of Appomattox will begin leaf collection starting November 1st. Leaf collection will take place in all areas at least once a week. No phone call is necessary.

Loose Leaf Collection – November 1 – January 31 — Loose leaves should be raked to the curb, but not into the street or blocking driveways. Leaf piles should be free of sticks and rocks.

Bagged leaves are collected throughout the year and should be bagged, tied and placed at curbside for pickup.


Weekly Brush Pickup

Town residents are asked to place brush, grass clippings, limbs, etc. at the curb.

Brush and tree limbs should be no longer than six feet, and where feasible should be in bags. 

If possible, please place limbs parallel to the road. 

It is not intended for commercial cuttings.  Residents are asked to have those items removed by the contractor performing the work. 


Pool Fillings

Water customers desiring their water meters to be read before and after the filling of their swimming pool, hot tub, etc. in order to avoid the sewer commodity charge for that water consumption shall notify the Town of Appomattox Public Works Department a minimum of two days prior to the filling a swimming pool, hot tub, etc.  

The Town of Appomattox will certify the amount of water used and the customer will not be charged a sewer commodity charge on the amount of water used to fill the swimming pool, hot tub, etc. 

Effective March 1, 2023, customers are allowed three (3) pool fillings per calendar year.
